Job Description

The Credit Officer will be responsible for evaluating the creditworthiness of loan applicants, assessing risk, and making informed lending decisions. The ideal candidate will be tasked with analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to determine the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Review loan requests, financial statements, and supporting documents to determine applicants’ creditworthiness.
  • Conduct risk assessments using credit scoring models and financial analysis.
  • Perform background checks, reference verifications, and ensure compliance with credit policies.
  •  Approve, decline, or recommend loans based on financial evaluations and risk analysis.
  •  Track active loans, identify risks, and ensure timely repayments.
  •  Follow up on overdue payments, negotiate repayment plans, and collaborate with collection agencies if necessary.
  • Adherent to financial laws, lending regulations, and internal credit policies.
  • Update and organize loan files, credit reports, and customer records.
  • Advise clients on loan terms, interest rates, and repayment schedules.
  •  Stay informed about economic trends, interest rates, and competitors’ lending practices.
  • Prepare and submit credit reports, risk analyses, and portfolio performance updates.
  •  Assist in creating and improving credit policies to enhance lending processes.
  • Work with sales, finance, and legal teams to ensure smooth lending operations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in credit assessment, loan processing, or risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of credit risk models, financial analysis, and lending regulations.
  • Ability to assess financial statements, credit scores, and debt ratios.
  • Experience with Ziglio banking software and Microsoft Excel
  • Competence in evaluating loan risks and making credit decisions.
  • Ensuring accuracy in financial records and loan documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written skills for client interactions and report writing.
  •  Ability to handle overdue loans and negotiate repayment plans.
  •  Familiarity with local and international financial laws affecting credit and lending.
  •  Ability to build trust and maintain relationships with clients.
  •  High level of integrity and professionalism in handling financial transactions.
  • Ability to handle multiple loan applications and meet deadlines efficiently.
